Read About Birds

If birdwatching is your hobby then maybe you’d like to hear that the’re a couple of well known personalities that you share this passion with. You probably have heard some of the people I will be referring to later on, you may know a few names we have not brought up, so let’s get to know some well-known birders!

Birds

Roger Tory Peterson, who did a great deal for the environment movement including his Field Guide to Birds in 1934 revolutionized the way people see the environment. Peterson brought the highly complex and jargon filled guides of field biologists to a level that ordinary people could understand and appreciate. The result was a new sense of awareness and understanding on the natural world,plus his work laid the foundation which helped the art of birdwatching evolve, along with wildlife centers.

Among others, another who stands out is Kenn Kaufman, who at the age of sixteen began hitch hiking all around North America looking for birds, today he still does a lot of birding. After a three year hiking stint, Kaufman was able to identify 671 species of birds in the area no one else had managed to document that many birds. His best works include, but are not limited to, the Kaufman Field Guide Series,Lives of North American birds, a bestseller, and Kingbird Highway

There are two other birders that should be mentionedDavid Allen Sibley and Pete Dunne are widely known in the birding community. Sibley is the author and illustrator of the popular and rather comprehensive field guide, Another well known birder is Pete Dunne who is known for his columns and article contributions to various publications also, American Birds, Living Bird, and Wildlife Conservation

Now to list off some of the birder celebrities we’ll start with the well respected Sir David Attenborough. One of his latest and quite notable works there is the Life series on the BBC which did a survey of terrestrial life,

Another great celebrity birder is Ian Flemming one of the more famous birders, he authored the James Bond books. The name James Bond, is borrowed from author of a book entitled Birds of the West Indies the book was published in 1936 The famous Goldeneye name, actually comes from the name of Flemming’s Jamaican estate the name also being used for the seventeenth movie

Surprisingly enough, former president Abraham Lincoln was also said to be a birder An old story states that he picked up a nest of robin hatchlings and placed them back in the tree they fell from. Writer Agatha Christie is also said to be an avid bird watcher it has been said that she never left home without a pair of binoculars.

Another celebrity birder is Sir Anthony Galsworthy, along with Trevor Harrison, and Princess TakamadoJimmy Carter, Charly Harper, Sir Kenneth Dover, what else do I have to say? So don’t fret if you think your friends are making fun of your because of your new found hobby, just let your friends know the names of the famous birders, and that will be that.
